Barbara has been an exhibiting member of WVAS since 1988. Family, farming and gardening commitments have at times limited the finishing or exhibiting of work, but she has enjoyed, and indeed learned from, painting alongside children.
She is experienced in using all media, including watercolour, and now combines them when appropriate. Most interested in the effects of light and colour, she paints any subject that appeals at the time, so that the work can be figurative or quite abstract. Often preferring to start outside and finish away from the subject, she uses shapes from her portraits, life and animal drawings to create small wood engravings and monoprints or incorporates them into larger works.
The Welland Valley provides much of her subject material though she has travelled through various southern African countries in the last few years studying other animals. Having moved from Thorpe by Water to Lyddington she is happy to discuss commissions.
